Working with Lawyers

Our reputation as superannuation valuers, consultants and expert witnesses in family law matters is well known to family lawyers, barristers and the family court. What is less well known is the important work we do with individuals and families, supporting them to understand their financial position and to make informed decisions about the impact of their family law settlement.

Over 10 years of working with clients going through and immediately after separation and divorce, we have learned that fear of their financial future holds people back from coming to agreement – especially women who have not been involved in making financial decisions in the past.

If you recognise the importance of taking a holistic approach to helping clients resolve the complex financial issues associated with separation, let’s talk about how we can partner with you to empower your clients so they can make informed financial settlement agreements.

COLLABORATION

We believe in a holistic approach to helping clients reach agreements that meet their own objectives and needs in a respectful and peaceful way.  This is why we have developed a network of like-minded collaborative professionals who share our values and who are passionate about collaborative practice.

MOVING FORWARD

We have a network of trusted and experienced lawyers who we work closely with cases and who we are happy to refer our clients to.  Nurturing a strategic alliance with a team of highly principled professionals who share your beliefs can only add value to your practice.

Our Process

We assist family lawyers and their clients in all aspects of reaching a financial settlement, including working with clients to increase their understanding of financial information, helping to reduce their anxiety about a financial settlement and helping them to make informed financial settlement decisions; smoothing the path to agreement.

PetersMcKeown offers three areas of divorce financial planning services:

  • Financial neutral – helping the separating couple to collaboratively problem-solve their financial issues; this includes helping them to assemble, evaluate and understand financial information and to generate and analyse financial settlement options so that they can make informed settlement decisions.
  • One-party support – working with one party, whether in collaboration, negotiation or litigation, to help them understand their financial situation, evaluate any settlement options  on the table and
  • Divorce recovery – once the settlement is in place, we work with clients to help them chart the course that best meets their life and financial goals and to help them get back on their financial feet as quickly as possible

If you’re as passionate as we are about assisting your clients to make informed financial settlement decisions and setting them on the right financial path, contact us today.

We passionately believe that an interdisciplinary team offers our clients the best opportunity to reach agreement and real resolution.  If you are a collaborative professional:

  • lawyer
  • financial planner
  • psychologist
  • counsellor
  • child specialist
  • accountant

Or any other professional who would like to know more about working as part of a collaborative team, please contact us.
